Merkur

MERKUR
This is likely the most famous brand of Czech-made metal construction sets, manufactured from the early 20th century in Police nad Metují. With a variety of metal components - profiles, strips, and plates with seemingly endless pre-drilled holes, wheels, shafts, etc. - virtually any model can be built based on the imagination of young and older «constructors» alike. More sophisticated versions of the sets also come with electric motors or transmissions making it possible to create fully functional models and machines with electric drive. Recently, Merkur even introduced a programmable robotic and mechatronic kit to the market. Ing. Jaromír Kříž stands behind the company’s continuation and tradition.

Did you know that…?

In 1961, the renowned Czech chemist and professor Otto Wichterle (1913–1998) used a Merkur set to make the world’s first successfully cast of a hydrogel contact lens.
